Eye Exams

The experienced Gig Harbor eye doctors at Sightline Ophthalmology perform comprehensive eye exams to ensure your eyes are healthy. These help screen your eyes for vision conditions and detect potential vision conditions before symptoms occur. Regularly scheduling eye exams with your eye doctor ensures your eyes will stay healthy and prevent vision problems from occurring.

Preparing for an Eye Exam

Routine eye exams are necessary to maintain healthy vision and eyes. Adults over 40 who have sharp vision at all ranges should have eye exams at least every two years.

If you have an eye condition like glaucoma, macular degeneration, or have diabetes, Gig Harbor eye doctors recommend an eye exam as often as every 3 months Younger adults with unaided sharp vision may only need eye exams every five years. However, younger patients between the ages of 3-5 should receive comprehensive exams to determine if there are any vision or eye alignment issues if they have not already been screened by a pediatrician. You should have your child’s eyes checked before they enter kindergarten to ensure their vision is optimal for learning..  During your eye exam, your ophthalmologist will dilate your eyes to see inside, checking your vision and screen for eye diseases or disorders.  If further testing is needed, we’ll schedule a more focused exam with testing. If you experience any changes in your vision between regularly scheduled visits with your ophthalmologist, schedule an appointment at Sightline Ophthalmology as soon as possible.  Early detection and treatment of vision conditions is often the key to preventing vision loss.

What Do You Need to Know When Preparing for An Eye Exam?

Upon calling Sightline Ophthalmology, we will need you to describe your current vision condition and any issues you might be experiencing. We will need to discuss whether you’ll require dilation.

This is important because you may need a ride if you require dilation. You should also understand payment, insurance information, and overall cost.
